IT WAS only five years ago that Sydney sisters Karla Rose and Candice Rose-O’Rourke were lugging a suitcase full of bikinis to and from luxury boutiques around the country, $20,000 in debt. The founders of bikini label Zulu and Zephyr, which now turns over $5 million wholesale bikinis , in annual revenue and is stocked by global retailers ASOS, Anthropologie and Revolve, have created a bikini empire.Like many Australian fashion success stories, the duo started out selling their samples at the Bondi markets. They sold out of stock every weekend and started to curate their hugely popular Instagram account, now followed by more than 285,000 people. The company has so far worked with models such as Anna Herrin, Scarlett Leithold and Kyra Santoro — who are active on Instagram — to help show the line’s range to both sporty and fashionable prospective customers. “The girl [who wears Gigi C] is sophisticated but can be a little bit sexy and knows how to work it. She can also be a little bit sporty,” Gigi said of the black-and-white collection that features details such as cutout designs, choker accents and off-the-shoulder styles. You've got to be able to see it and believe it. When you're tired and you feel like giving up, you've got to embrace the faith and believe that one day is going to be your day. Because one day can't be your day if you give up. If you quit, no day is going to be your day. I have this saved in my notes as reminder. Visualizing, faith and perseverance are huge to me.
